PzKpfw IV at the front : UPDATE No3 - factory production guide (G)

The heart of this book is the exploration of factory differences during the production of Ausf Gs. I have been able to identify a number of features that can enable the differentiation between vehicles of a similar time period. That is, if you can see certain elements you can confidently ascertain whether the vehicle was build at the Krupp, Vomag or Nibelungen factory. These range from new observations on small details to realigning features that were previously thought to be date specific alterations to factory specific styles.
The key to this research was an investigation into new and existing images of vehicles with their Fgst Nr (chassis number) visible, I have managed to gather over 40 such example, 12 of which are documented photographically in the book. These are relating to a chart built around info found about contracts given to the specific factories. Within the book there is total of 139 photos covering the period from early 1942 through to mid 1943, as usual the majority of them are previously unpublished. I have split the update into the following four periods: early F2(G) where the differences are harder to spot mid G where they become quite distinct late G where other distinguishing feature are added (including diagram showing schurzen variations) and very early H.
There are 9 diagrams, three tables and multiple thumbnails introducing specific details in each of the chapters. The book concludes with three models of mid production Gs illustrated with 11 photos and showing how to accurately produce one from each factory.

PzKpfw IV at the front UPDATE No.2

The next "PzKpfw IV at the front" UPDATE contains 118 photos, which continue to add to the information laid down in the Barbarossa Stowage supplementary volume published in Aug 2010.
This update manages to fill most of the gaps left in that original volume and add some newly discovered information. The gaps addressed include:
how 1st PzDiv stowage changed in the build up to Barbarossa plus a driver's eye view of first days of action, coverage of 4th K - 4th PzDiv, unusual turret markings in 6th PzDiv, rear marking details for 4th K - 8th PzDiv, the use of and stowage for Ausf Fs in 9th K - 9th PzDiv, a bit more light shone on the numbering system of 11th PzDiv, Kompanie specifics for 16th PzDiv, all round detail for 9th K - 17th PzDiv (ex-Lehr), unusual turret bin makings on 19th PzDiv and 5th PzDiv during the Winter of 41/42, 20th PzDiv rear stowage, 2nd PzDiv Stab markings & 5th PzDiv right hand stowage.
Along with this unit specific information there are a few things discussed that are of general interest. Including: 3 examples of cupola AA MG use and an 88 under tow!
The format of the book follows that of the original Supplementary volume, with each Division being dealt with like a chapter. Where there are new general issue they are discussed as a heading and then individual Kompanies are described. Followed by specific turret numbers and Ausf for other vehicles not shown in the book.
Although this volume is an update to the previous edition it can still work as a stand alone book, as there are examples of all Kompanies included. So it could be useful either to drill down for that really specific detail or to get a sense of the vehicles and epic landscape of this gargantuan conflict.

Barbarossa Stowage

The book is divided in to a chapter for each Division, which contains; comprehensive photographic evidence, description of general Divisional stowage and markings followed by a similar description for each Kompanie. Other known turret numbers and their Ausf are also listed.
A total of 125 fully described period photographs are supported by an appendix of 11 pages of line diagrams for easy reference. The diagrams offer 4 point views for 50 units! All bar two of the photographs are from author's collection and the vast majority are published here for the first time. As with the other books where ever possible images are kept one to a page.
This supplement is the perfect companion for "PzKpfw IV at the front" Volumes 1&2 and will be an indispensible reference for anyone interested in either early PzIVs or operation Barbarossa.

PzKpfw IV at the Front Volume 4 : Mid - late Ausf G, H and J

The fourth volume of the series covers the late war versions of the PzKpfwIV from Ausfs G & H through to the final J.
Containing 90 original photos from the front with detailed captions, the majority of which are previously unpublished.
All are taken from author's collection and cover all fronts, including a rare colour image, images of F2(G)s upgraded to H spec and the wider Ostkette being worn. Also new research on type and date of G roof armour.
The 3 visual diagrams in this volume (one for each Ausf) are particularly helpful for the complex and multiple changes related to this fraught period of the war. As in the Vol 3 the diagrams bring together dates, production numbers and descriptions of changes over the period to create a handy one stop reference. This volume concludes with a bibliography that covers the whole series.

PzKpfw IV at the Front Volume 1 : Ausf A - C

Volume 1 covers the early years of Panzer IV production. From its pre war inception through the initial campaigns of WWII (Poland, France & the Low Countries, the Balkans and Russia).
Many more images are available from the successful Blitzkrieg when soldiers, encouraged to carry cameras were keen to record their victories. Even so this is probably the largest collection of early PzIV photographs published under the same cover. Certainly this many original images of the Ausf A have not been seen together in the same publication. The book includes 44 images of the Ausf A, 25 Ausf C and 56 Ausf C within a total of 129 photographs. A type of tyre specific to Ausf A are revealed for the first time and images of Ausf B & C throw doubt over the current designation of Ausfs in relation to auxiliary exhaust lengths.
There is no table of changes in this volume instead a comprehensive table covering changes on all short barreled versions will be published in Volume 2.
All these photographs are from author's collection and the vast majority are published for the first time.
